MCT8 deficiency, also known as Allan-Herndon-Dudley syndrome, is a rare, severe and life-limiting X-linked disorder caused by pathogenic variants in the SLC16A2 gene.
The disease results in tissue-specific disruption of thyroid hormone signalling, leading to severe neurodevelopmental impairment and peripheral thyrotoxicosis.
EMCITATE® (tiratricol) is approved in the United States and European Union. Approved indications, patient populations, availability, and prescribing information vary by country.
